How we are dealing with Cold and Flu Season
As all you moms out there know, cold and flu season is here and when it comes to our little ones, it’s always important to be prepared. This includes understanding the symptoms and having the right tools to detect if your child has a fever, and to help provide soothing relief for colds and congestion. In our household, we have always trusted our Braun thermometer when taking Mason or Asher’s temperature and, especially, during the winter months. When humidity is low (especially during winter with the heat running), we’ve used our Vicks humidifier with Vicks VapoPads.
Lets start off with when one of my little boys out there gets a fever, which is never fun for any mom. Well, I have been using my Braun ThermoScan® since both the boys were born and it has always put me at ease knowing I’m getting the most accurate temperature reading. Braun is the number one brand among doctors and even my boys’ pediatrician uses it. The Braun ThermoScan® 7 ($89.99) has so many features and provides us parents with all the information we need when caring for a sick child. It features Braun’s Age Precision® Technology, which means it will deliver a more accurate temperature reading depending on your child’s age, since a normal temperature for a toddler may be considered a fever for a newborn. Its display also features a built-in night light, so we can take our child’s temperature at night when they’re in bed. It also saves the last nine readings, so you can track your child’s temperature over time. Other features include:
- Pre-warmed tip to 34 degrees Celsius to achieve professional accuracy and provide extra comfort
- Fast, easy and gentle to use
- Disposable probe covers help prevent the spreading of germs
Checking your child’s thermometer using the Braun ThermoScan® 7 is as simple as one, two, three:
Step 1: Set your child’s age with the Age Precision® button.
Step 2: Take the temperature.
Step 3: The colour-coded fever indicator will help you understand and interpret the results and act accordingly – green (normal temperature), yellow (elevated temperature) and red (high temperature).
Now, let me tell you about finding the best humidifier to use for those nasty coughs or just sneezes and congestion. Vicks has always been a trusted brand for me and I remember my parents using Vicks VaporRub when I was growing up, so using their humidifiers and VapoPads has been amazing. Right now, we’re running the Vicks® FilterFree Cool Mist Humidifier ($59.99) to help restore essential moisture to our home. It’s super quiet, contains a variable mist control setting to regulate humidity levels and is super easy to handle when refilling. But one of my favorite aspects of Vicks humidifiers is the ability to input the Vicks VapoPads! These little scent pads add soothing vapours to the air and fill the room. Vicks®VapoPad ($18.99 for a 10 pack) provide up to 8 hours of soothing vapours and are available in menthol and rosemary and lavender scents.
So for the this cold and flu season and the upcoming ones, make sure you are prepared with Braun and Vicks to ensure you children are getting the best and most accurate results.
